When the workshop was offered in the spring, it filled up quickly. To avoid being shut out, you’ll want to register early. Like last time, there will be a morning and an afternoon session of the same workshop. The workshops are being offered Sept. 21 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, 901 G St. NW, third floor. The first session is from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The second session is from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Professional archivists and historians will show participants how to research the history of their home or any historical property, using the Washingtoniana collection of maps, building permits database, photo archives and microfilm records. Among the information you can learn about your house is the date it was built, the architect, builder, dates of any improvements, former residents and how your neighborhood has evolved over time.
The workshop is free, but registration is required. To register, go to http://househistory.eventbrite.com.
