Breathe deeply at Auspice Hill, a Craftsman-style home in Middleburg listed for sale at $1.55 million, and you’ll inhale nothing but clean air. At least, that’s how it’s designed to be.

Built in 2009 by Heritage Homes of Virginia, this energy-efficient green home has a geothermal system, radiant heat and extra insulation to keep energy bills low. But in addition, to maintain good air quality, the residence contains a whole-house air filtration system; zero VOC paints, stains and kitchen cabinets; a central vacuum system; reverse osmosis filtration; and UV treatment and heat recovery ventilators.

The property, at 23515 Light Horse Court in Middleburg on an 8.6-acre lot, was designed by architect Kevin Ruedisueli with a rustic feel. The home has a three-story foyer with custom-designed railings and stairs, four bedrooms, three full bathrooms and a half-bathroom.

The main-level study can be converted to a fifth bedroom. The rest of the main level has an open, casual floor plan with a kitchen, family room and a screened-in patio with an outdoor fireplace. Maryland ranks high in millionaires — and foreclosures

Two unrelated reports show widely varying views of the financial health of Maryland homeowners.

Maryland in 2013 maintained the top spot in an annual ranking of millionaires by state compiled by global marketing firm Phoenix Marketing International. Millionaires, according to the report, comprise 7.70 percent of the population per capita.

Virginia and the District aren’t far behind. Virginia ranks 7th with 6.64 percent and D.C. comes in 10th with 6.10 percent of its population holding $1 million or more in liquid assets.

At the same time, Maryland ranked among the states with the highest increase in foreclosures in 2013. In Maryland, foreclosure activity soared 117 percent in 2013 compared with 2012, according to RealtyTrac‘s Year-End 2013 U.S. Foreclosure Market Report.

Other states in the top 10 were New Jersey (up 44 percent), New York (up 34 percent), Connecticut (up 20 percent), Washington (up 13 percent) and Pennsylvania (up 13 percent).

Total foreclosure activity dropped by 9.58 percent in the District and by 22.81 percent in Virginia, the report says.

Maryland also was among the states with the highest foreclosure rates in 2013, with 1.57 percent of all housing units having a foreclosure filing. One of the reasons Maryland’s foreclosures were up is that as a “judicial foreclosure” state, it often takes a while for such cases to wend their way through the court system. Indeed, Maryland’s judicial foreclosure auctions were up 107 percent in 2013.

Cabinet is elegant TV concealer

If you’re spending more time on your couch this winter binge-watching TV but don’t necessarily think the flat-panel display and all its wiring match your décor, this may be a solution for you.

It’s a “pop-up” lift that hides your TV in an elegant cabinet by Cabinet-Tronix that either is custom made or purchased from stock.

These wood TV cabinets come in a variety of contemporary and traditional styles in several colors and finishes.

When you’re not watching TV, your flat-panel can be stored in the cabinet, protecting it from dust and scratches. The cabinets are designed to hide the cables and wires that dangle behind most TVs. When you’re ready to watch, the lift mechanism raises the TV to the optimal position.

Customers can buy a universal remote and 360-degree rotation option so the TV can be viewed from various parts of the room. The TV cabinets are priced from $3,750 to $3,950 for in-stock designs and from $4,650 to $5,950 and up for custom designs. For more information, go to www.cabinet-tronix.com.

Top agent takes his team to Keller Williams Realty

Bob and Tracey Lucido and the Bob Lucido Team are transferring their business from Re/Max Advantage to Keller Williams Realty in Ellicott City. Lucido and his team, who settled on more than 500 homes and had $210 million in total volume in 2013, were ranked as the No. 3 Re/Max team in the United States.

“Both Re/Max and Keller Williams are great companies, but I realized that I was always recommending that new agents read Gary Keller’s book ‘The Millionaire Real Estate Agent‘ and it just seemed crazy not to be part of that company,” says Lucido. “Keller Williams offers an outstanding culture, great support and technology tools. They’re like the Ritz-Carlton or Lexus of the real estate world in terms of customer service for their agents and for buyers and sellers.”

The Lucido team, which has about 40 people, includes 28 licensed agents. Keller Williams is the largest real estate brokerage in the country based on the number of agents. Lucido, an associate broker, was with Re/Max for nearly six years and prior to that he owned Builders 1st Choice, a brokerage for land and new homes.
