Over-the-top listings in the D.C. area

CORRECTION: An earlier version of the post contained incomplete information for the property in the former Textile Museum. The listing is in three buildings, 2320-2330 S St. NW, not just at 2320 S St. NW. Also the property is 26,000 square feet, not 15,000. 

We may not be Miami, New York or Beverly Hills, but the Washington area has its share of showcase houses.

With the help of Rockville-based multiple listing service MRIS, we compiled this list of several over-the-top properties on the market that range from $8 million to $22 million:

• 2320-2330 S St. NW, Washington

 $22 million

This Kalorama property, the former site of the Textile Museum, has 34,000 square feet of gardens as well as 26,000 square feet of living space in three buildings, including 10 bedrooms, eight full baths and six half baths. “You can’t live at the Jefferson Memorial or National Gallery West but you can own a property designed by the same renowned architect, John Russell Pope,” says real estate agent Sylvia Bergstrom, Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage.

 36987 Mountville Rd., Middleburg

 $15 million

Bolinvar is a Middleburg Georgian Manor estate encompassing more than 300 acres of meadows and woodland, says real estate agent Mary Ann McGowan of Thomas and Talbot Real Estate. The property has 22 rooms in the main house, a show stable with staff apartments, a riding ring, stocked ponds, a second stable and two guest houses and is bordered by Goose Creek.

• 2950 University Terrace NW, Washington

 $14.995 million

This 9,000-square-foot home has five bedrooms, five full baths, two half baths and sits on a 6.2 acre lot with a two-bedroom guest house, a swimming pool and terraces. The property, built in 1995, has a central 24-foot octagonal atrium entry, 12 foot ceilings on the main level “and lends itself elegantly to entertaining inside and out,” says real estate agent Heidi Hatfield of Washington Fine Properties. The property includes a two-bedroom guest house, a swimming pool and a greenhouse.

$12.98 million

The property, called Riverview Manor, is a private five-gated estate on the Potomac “with expansive river views from all levels,” says real estate agent Marianne Polk of Long & Foster Real Estate. The property includes a guest house and pool house.

 1005 Founders Ridge Lane, McLean

$12.9 million

The Estate at The Reserve is a 20,000-square-foot custom-built home in The Reserve community. The mansion has an indoor pool, an indoor racquetball/basketball court, a wine cellar, an elevator, a ballroom, a theater, steam showers, nanny quarters and a whole house generator.  3101 Chain Bridge Rd. NW, Washington

 $10.497 million

Built in 2004, the 15,000-square-foot home has seven bedrooms, eight full baths, three half baths and large spaces for entertaining.

 $9.995 million

 $8.5 million

 $8 million

This newly renovated estate has more than 18,000 square feet of living space, a nine-hole golf course, a pool, tennis and basketball courts, a ballroom, a wine cellar, a fitness center, a sauna/spa area, a theater, an outdoor summer kitchen and stone terraces.
