A 2012 fire that devastated a townhouse at 2149 Florida Ave. NW in Kalorama resulted in an opportunity for the home to be resurrected and modernized by the architects at Sagart Studio.

Built in 1905, the house still maintains its distinctive turret, but the interior has been renovated with an open floorplan on the main level, glamorous bedrooms and baths and a sleek modern kitchen with stainless steel appliances and European-style cabinetry.

The home has exposed brick walls in some spaces, skylights, custom-designed lighting, extensive millwork and a fireplace. The 2,894-square foot home includes four bedrooms, 3.5 baths and an expansive rooftop deck.

Highlights of the home include the master bedroom, which has a peaked ceiling, glass doors to a private balcony and a skylight.

The sleek master bath has two vessel sinks, a freestanding oval tub and a glass-enclosed shower. The upper-level sitting room and main-level living room each have a fireplace. Priced at $1.849 million, this home is listed by the Edward and Stewart Team at the Georgetown office of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage.

D.C.-area homeowners to receive compensation from SunTrust settlement

As many as 49 District homeowners who lost their properties to foreclosure between 2008 and 2013 will be eligible for payments from a recent settlement agreement between SunTrust, the D.C. government, the federal government and 48 states.

Nationally, SunTrust must pay $500 million in principal reductions to homeowners and another $40 million to borrowers whose homes were foreclosed on. SunTrust was accused of unlawful conduct related to loan originations, loan servicing, loan modifications, foreclosures and bankruptcy related activities.

The size of the payments to consumers depends on how many current and previous homeowners submit claims. Eligible borrowers will be contacted about how to qualify for the payments.

Zillow introduces “Coming Soon” listings

In tight housing markets with competitive buyers, those who know ahead of time about a home soon to go on the market sometimes have an edge over other prospective buyers.

Now Zillow has announced that it will list “Coming Soon” homes on its Web site, properties that are expected to be listed within 30 days.

Home shoppers can benefit from a sneak peek at a property before it’s ready to go on the market. Buyers can contact their agent, get pre-approved for a loan and be prepared to make an offer sooner if they have some warning that a home in their preferred neighborhood and price range will become available.

Sellers and their listing agents can benefit by gauging interest in the property at a particular price without having to put the home on the market first. Depending on the amount of interest from buyers, the sellers and their agent can choose to list the home for sale at a lower or higher price.

“Coming Soon” homes will show up on the map listings once buyers opt for that feature in the search filter. Visit  www.Zillow.com to test the new feature.
