Home buyers increasingly interested in condos
Lawrence Yun, chief economist for the National Association of Realtors (NAR), speaking at Zillow‘s recent Housing Forum “The Big Picture: A Longer Term Perspective on Housing,” said that NAR’s research shows a shift in buyers’ housing preferences.
In previous buyer preference surveys, 85 percent of purchasers wanted to live in a single-family home; today that number has dropped to 75 percent, with 25 percent of buyers interested in a condo.
That 10 percentage point switch appears to be a mix of millennials interested in urban living and downsizing baby boomers.
Luxurious, large condos coming to Bethesda
Fancy owning a condo with direct access from your own private elevator? Sales are anticipated to begin this fall on The Lauren, a 40-unit upscale condo at 4901 Hampden Lane in downtown Bethesda.
The floor plans range in size from 1,444 to more than 6,000 square feet, with 29 units designated as “estate quality” condos that average more than 2,500 square feet of living space. These premier units will all have nine- and 10-foot-high ceilings, custom-designed cabinets, fireplaces, home automation systems and high-end finishes. Private elevators are available in 70 percent of The Lauren’s residences and many of the homes will have a private terrace. Prices are anticipated to range from $1.5 million to $5 million.

Concierge services will be provided for residents and their guests. Five guest suites that can be used for entertaining will also be sold to residents who want to purchase additional space at The Lauren.

D.C. renters rank fitness and outdoor amenities highest
A recent survey of D.C.-area renters by Urban Igloo, a residential real estate resource that helps renters find homes, shows that renters value outdoor amenities most.
In D.C., 59 percent of renters surveyed ranked fitness amenities important, compared with 37 percent of renters in a national survey. The results also show that D.C. renters are more interested in on-site concierge services (37 percent) than pet amenities (26 percent).
