Jump ball: How to handle adversity

For today’s newspaper Michael Lee wrote about the Wizards trying to follow the “Oklahoma City model” for rebuilding — a model that includes a lot of losing in the early stages.

In Oklahoma City, the Washington Wizards see a team they would like to be; one that recognized the need to start over from scratch and reached relevance after an initially gruesome beginning.

And this morning he blogged about how gruesome beginnings can build character.

Some readers are worried about how all that losing will affect the team’s young players, especially John Wall.

I think going through adversity can help build character, but I think there’s a limit. Losing early in their careers may help players like Wall and Booker focus on what they need to do to improve. At some point, however, if they don’t start to see improvement in the team on the floor, it can crush their spirit or make them seek greener pastures.

How do you think Wall is handling adversity so far? And how could it impact his future?
