Wizards headed to Las Vegas for NBA Summer League

The final details have not been worked out, but when the list of teams is released for the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas this summer, expect the Wizards to be on it, according to two league sources with knowledge of the situation. The event will be held from July 13 to 22 at the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion on the UNLV campus.

The Wizards were among the participants in the inaugural Las Vegas summer league in 2004 and made the trip every year until the NBA canceled the summer league last year because of the lockout.

John Wall, JaVale McGee, Nick Young, Trevor Booker, Cartier Martin and Hamady Ndiaye participated when the event was held in the summer of 2010. That summer, 22 NBA teams competed in a total of 58 games.

Last year’s draft picks, Jan Vesely, Chris Singleton and Shelvin Mack, are all expected to participate this summer. The Wizards have also spoken to Morris Almond about taking part after he finished the season with the team. Martin has said he would be open to playing as well, if asked.

Surprisingly, Jordan Crawford also stated that he would be interested in playing, despite leading the team in scoring after the all-star break. “I would definitely go play a game because that’s how you get better, is to play five-on-five with me,” Crawford said last week.

The NBA draft lottery is May 30 and the draft will be held in Newark on June 28.
