Wizards injury update: Maurice Evans ‘available’; Jan Vesely doesn’t travel to Atlanta

Maurice Evans, who was acquired with Jordan Crawford from the Atlanta Hawks in the trade involving Kirk Hinrich, was unable to practice on Tuesday after having his knee drained the day before. Evans, 33, re-signed with the Wizards after averaging 9.7 points in his two-month stint with the team. He is still trying to get back in basketball shape after helping the negotiate the collective bargaining agreement during the offseason.

Coach Flip Saunders said Evans could be available to debut against his former team. “Maybe,” Evans said in response.

Rookie Jan Vesely did not travel with the team to Atlanta. Already out for nearly two weeks with a right hip injury, Vesely has just come down with the flu. The Wizards are now allowed to carry 13 players on the active roster. In previous years, teams could only have 12.
