Wizards sign James Singleton to a 10-day contract

The Wizards are all about reunions these days. After recently bringing back Cartier Martin, they have also now signed James Singleton to a 10-day contract.

Singleton, 30, was part of the Wizards’ trade deadline deal in February 2010 that shipped Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood and DeShawn Stevenson to Dallas and also yielded Josh Howard. He averaged 6.1 points and 6.9 rebounds and was a vocal locker room presence in 32 games with the team. He has spent the past two seasons in China.

With Nene and Trevor Booker out with injuries to their left feet and Rashard Lewis and Andray Blatche both not traveling with the team as they recover from other injuries, the Wizards were limited to just three big men in Kevin Seraphin, Jan Vesely and Brian Cook. Chris Singleton has been forced to spend some time at power forward the past three games.

They only had 14 roster spots, so they had room for a veteran like Singleton, who averaged 17.8 points & 11.9 rebounds for Guandong Southern Tigers. Singleton has only been back in the United States for four days and is with the team in Detroit, where the Wizards will play the second of three games in three nights against the Pistons. Singleton has career averages of 3.7 points and 3.6 points in a four-year career in which he has also played for the Los Angeles Clippers.
