Emeka Okafor’s debut has been delayed once again, as the 6-foot-10 big man was forced to sit out the Wizards’ lone home preseason game, Thursday night against the New York Knicks, with a stomach virus.
Coach Randy Wittman rested Okafor during the Wizards’ 100-88 loss on Sunday in Charlotte and planned on welcoming him back with the team already missing John Wall (left knee), Nene (left foot) and Trevor Booker (left hamstring).
The Wizards started Jan Vesely and Kevin Seraphin at power forward and center, respectively. Jordan Crawford, A.J. Price and Trevor Ariza also got the nod against the Knicks, who were playing without Amaré Stoudemire, Ronnie Brewer, Marcus Camby, Iman Shumpert, Chris Smith and James White.
Wittman was asked when the Wizards would get to the point when the expectations for his team were raised and he replied: “It’s not here. It’s not today.”
