The Wizards need a win. Not just to avoid tying the franchise’s worst record to start the season (0-8, set in 2011-12) but to give themselves something to build upon and to boost the morale of a team that despite being more competitive this season, simply can’t find a way to capture a victory.
With all that in mind, Coach Randy Wittman will go with a different starting lineup Saturday night against the Jazz at Verizon Center. Jordan Crawford and Jan Vesely received starting nods for the first time this season and will join A.J. Price, Trevor Ariza and Emeka Okafor.
“I’m not one to stand and not try to push different buttons, whether that’s a lineup change or how many minutes a guy gets,” Wittman said, prior to releasing the lineup. “I just felt it was maybe time for a little change.”
Shaun Livingston, who signed with Washington on Thursday, makes his 2012-13 Wizards debut against the Jazz and Wittman said he plans to keep it simple with the point guard. Livingston is familiar with some of the systems from his first tour in Washington in 2009-10, which should help ease the transition process a bit.
“We’re going to throw him out there. I think he can help us,” Wittman said. “He gives us size at that position and I think the knowledge of playing, knowing how to play is important for this group.”
