Wizards vs Knicks: Game 13 Open Thread

The Wizards didn’t want to spend too much time dwelling on Friday’s loss in Toronto with an opportunity to bounce back at home against Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks.

“Obviously, we need to regroup really quick,” Marcin Gortat said. “We’re going to come back stronger. We have a home game and we have to use that advantage and get a win. New York is also struggling. So we’ve got to get this game.”

Washington has played eight of its first 12 games on the road, but the next two games are at Verizon Center, where the Wizards are 2-2 this season. Last season, the Wizards went 22-19 at home but were an impressive 18-6 after John Wall returned from injury.

Wall wants the Verizon Center to once again be a difficult place for visiting teams. “We got to establish home as a place where we want to be,” Wall said. “Last year, that’s what our trademark was, when we made our run. We started being a good team by winning a lot of games at home. We definitely got to win this one, going against a team that struggling and fighting like we are.”

Anthony ranks second in the league in scoring at 26. 1 points per game, but the Knicks have lost four straight overall and are a disappointing 3-8. The Wizards aren’t where they want to be, either.

“That’s not what we want,” Gortat said of the team’s 4-8 record. “We just got to play through it and we’ve got to play better. It’s not like we got beat by 20 points, which means we miss maybe two or three possessions to get over the hump and get a win. We got to come ready to play.”
