NBA playoff schedule: First round

With Wednesday’s win at Boston, the Washington Wizards clinched the No. 5 seed and will play fourth-seeded Chicago in the first round of the NBA playoffs. Game 1 is at 7 p.m. Sunday in Chicago on Comcast SportsNet and TNT (Photo by John McDonnell/The Washington Post).

It took just about every minute of all 82 games to sort out the standings, but the once-murky NBA playoff picture is now set following Wednesday’s final slate of regular season games.

Just one week after dropping to the No. 7 spot in the Eastern Conference following a loss to Charlotte, the Washington Wizards (44-38) won their last four games, including Wednesday’s 118-102 decision at Boston, to clinch the fifth seed. Awaiting them in the first round will be the fourth-seeded Chicago Bulls, whom the Wizards beat in two out of three contests this season. Game 1 of the seven-game series will be held Sunday at 7 p.m. in Chicago and televised on Comcast SportsNet and TNT.

The Wizards finished one game ahead of the Bobcats, who clinched the No. 7 seed by rallying late for a 91-86 overtime win against Chicago. Had Charlotte (43-39) won and Washington lost, the Wizards would have fallen to the seventh slot since the Bobcats held the tiebreaker. Instead, Charlotte will head to Miami for Sunday’s Game 1 at 3:30 p.m. on ABC.

Sandwiched between Washington and Charlotte in the No. 6 spot is Brooklyn. After losing to New York on Tuesday, the Nets all but conceded the fifth seed that they once held by sitting all of their starters in Wednesday’s 114-85 loss in Cleveland. With both Washington and Brooklyn finishing at 44-38 and the Wizards holding the tiebreaker after sweeping their three meetings, the Nets fell to the sixth seed. Brooklyn, which has lost four of its last five games, will travel to Toronto on Saturday for Game 1 on ESPN.
