Our health-care system, in one report card
The Commonwealth Fund is out with its annual score card on the American health-care system, and it’s not pretty. Our health-care system got 64 out of a possible 100 points on various performance indicators, a slight drop from the 67 points given last year. Here’s a graphic that summarizes the key findings:
The good news? As the graphic in the lower right corner shows, some Medicare regions are showing significant savings by reducing hospital re-admissions. The full study finds more adults have their high blood pressure under control than did a decade ago and that hospitals are showing better quality indicators on key procedures, such as treatment for heart attacks or pneumonia.
