Live in North Dakota? You could travel 300 miles for an abortion.

Ever since the early 1980s, the number of doctors performing abortions has steadily declined. Michael Keller and Allison Yarrow map what abortion access looks like right now, with each dark blue circle representing an abortion clinic:

abortion mapAn interactive version of the map is available here. Midwestern states tend to have the lowest level of access to abortion clinics, much more so than the southern states. The strip of light grey that runs through the middle of the country, from North Dakota down to the tip of Texas, represents areas where the closest abortion clinic is at least 300 miles away.
