This afternoon, the Senate is set to pass the House's "suspension" of the debt ceiling through May 19, a move that, according to the Bipartisan Policy Center, will amount to an increase in the ceiling of about $450 billion. So how big an increase is that, compared to recent increases? Using the BPC numbers and a recent CRS report detailing increases since the mid-90s, here's what the ceiling's changes have looked like since the mid-90s:
