A quick programming note. A month or two ago, we redesigned Wonkblog to have more of a homepage feel, with a curated front that showcased what we thought was best rather than what was most recent. The idea was that Wonkblog now had so much content that we had to do a better job organizing and presenting it for you.
The numbers didn’t bear that out. Most of you were just scrolling beneath the new part to get back to the old-school, reverse-chronological blog. Homepage traffic was more or less steady, but if any patterns could be pulled from the numbers, they suggested slightly lower, rather than much higher, engagement off the homepage. And, of course, keeping it fresh was a pain for us.
In other words, it was an interesting experiment but not, ultimately, a successful one. So we’re going back to the old, bloggier style, which is what you see today.
