The National Zoo has a new baby panda! And Wonkblog has a chart!

A baby panda was born at the National Zoo at 5:32 p.m. on Friday afternoon. It has since undergone its first doctor's check-up and been deemed "a very healthy, active, vibrant cub." Here's what to expect next, via the Washington Post's graphics department:


And here's a picture of what the National Zoo's panda cub looked like on Saturday, during its exam:

We don't know yet the gender of the cub, or its father (Mei Xiang was artificially inseminated by two male pandas and, during the exam, zookeepers collected a DNA sample to determine paternity).  Welcome to the world, little guy (or girl!)
