Photo Effects (Lite) is a quick photo editor that’s easy to use and has some fun effects but isn’t for anyone looking to create high art. No substitute for a heavy-duty editing program such as Photoshop, the program is best used to supplement Photo Booth and iPhoto, the photo editing programs that come with Macs. Users can put the app’s 48 filters over pictures they have uploaded into the program or taken with the camera in their computers. The controls are easy to figure out — it’s not a very complicated app — and the effects are fun and varied enough to add some life to your photos. If you’re looking for a fast, cheap way to add effects to pictures for your blog or social networking site, it’s worth the download. But if you’re planning on doing any serious photo editing, keep looking. Free, from the Mac App Store.
