Bottom line: The all-new-for-2013 Land Rover Range Rover is an elegantly beautiful, marvelously competent off-road vehicle that makes more sense as a collector’s item than it does for daily transportation. Buy it as a functional art piece.

Head-turning quotient: It is as stylish and as eye-catching as the royal family. You can’t help notice . . . and stare.
ody style/layout: The Range Rover Supercharged is a front-engine, full-size, full-luxury SUV with an aluminum body and permanent four-wheel drive. It has every conceivable automotive luxury and off-road tool.
Engine/transmission: The Range Rover Supercharged comes with a supercharged (forced air) 5-liter, 32-valve gasoline V-8 with variable valve timing (510 horsepower, 461 pound-feet of torque) linked to an eight-speed automatic transmission that also can be operated manually. A two-speed transfer case, with low-range gear, is included to assist serious off-roading.
Capacities: Seats five people. Maximum cargo capacity is 71.7 cubic feet. The fuel tank holds 27.7 gallons of gasoline (premium grade is required).
Mileage: The Environmental Protection Agency’s rating of 13 miles per gallon in the city and 19 on the highway seems about right.
Safety: Standard equipment includes four-wheel ventilated disc brakes; a four-channel, all-terrain anti-lock braking system; emergency braking assistance; electronic brake-force distribution; cornering brake control; all-terrain dynamic stability control; hill-descent control; and side and head air bags.
