D.C. area business diary for week of Feb. 11

Acquisitions

Columbia-based media data company Arbitron said it and New York-based Nielsen Holdings have agreed to provide the Federal Trade Commission with more time to review the previously announced $1.26 billion acquisition of Arbitron by Nielsen.

District-based private equity firm Carlyle Group said that its Florida-based portfolio company Dynamic Precision Group, which makes components for aerospace engines, has acquired Massachusetts-based Paradigm Precision, a maker of components for turbine engines.

Arlington-based power company AES said it will sell its two power distribution businesses in Ukraine — AES Kyivoblenergo and AES Rivneoblenergo — to Amsterdam-based VS Energy International.

McLean-based cloud network company GTT said it has acquired Chicago-based network and data services company IDC Global. Terms were not disclosed.

Contracts

Bethesda-based hotel company Marriott International signed agreements with Bangkok-based TCC Hotels Group for Marriott to operate seven hotels across Thailand.

Expansions

Fairfax-based George Mason Mortgage said it has opened an office at 4100 N. Fairfax Dr., Suite 301, Arlington, VA 22203.

Funding

Ashburn-based Speek, a developer of conference call software, said it has received an undisclosed investment from Vienna-based venture capital firm Valhalla Partners.

Herndon-based Center for Innovative Technology said it has invested $100,000 in Reston-based mobile security start-up Kaprica Security.

Herndon-based YaSabe, a provider of local search services for Hispanics, said it has received an undisclosed investment from Miami-based wireless distributor Brightstar.

Moves

Denver-based information security company Accuvant said it will relocate its Maryland office from Columbia to Dorsey in the second quarter of this year.

Pharmaceuticals

District-based Vanda Pharmaceuticals said the Phase IIb/III clinical trial studying the drug tasimelteon in treating major depressive disorder did not meet its primary endpoints. The company said it has ended its program of using tasimelteon as a treatment for major depressive disorder.
