Washington area business diary for week of Feb. 13

Acquisitions

Johannesburg, South Africa-based IT services company Dimension Data, which has offices in Herndon and Reston, said it has acquired Manassas-based software company Xigo for an undisclosed amount.

Bethesda-based cloud computing company Virtustream said it has completed its previously announced acquisition of Toronto-based Enomaly, a developer of a marketplace for buyers and sellers to exchange computing and storage capacities. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Call for entries

The Alexandria-based Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for its $2,000 Education Partnership Scholarships from high school seniors who seek further education in a business-related field. Applications available at www.mtvernon-leechamber.org.

Expansions

Conshohocken, Pa.-based restaurant chain Saladworks has opened a restaurant in Reston at the Plaza America Shopping Center, 11692 Plaza America Dr., Reston, VA 20190; 703-467-9181.

Asburn-based datacenter services provider Intelishift Technologies is now offering it services California in Fremont and Irvine.

Toronto-based cloud security technology company PerspecSys has opened an office in McLean: 1750 Tysons Blvd., Suite 1500, McLean, VA 22102; 703-712-4752.

College Park-based technology and consulting company DFR Solutions said it has opened an office in Finland.

Funding

Alexandria-based tech company Commonwealth Technology said it has invested in Fairfax-based data management company O nyx Government Services. Commonwealth Technology did not disclose the amount of the investment.

Reston-based Transaction Network Services, which provides data communications services used in payment transactions, said it has refinanced its existing senior credit facilities. The company’s new facilities include a $350 million five-year term loan and a $100 million, five-year revolving credit facility. TNS said it drew $25 million of the revolving facility at closing.

Rockville-based Neuralstem, a developer of stem cell technology, said it plans to raise $5.2 million through a registered direct placement. Under the deal, the company is to sell 5.2 million shares of its stock for $1 each to certain institutional and accredited investors.

Rockville-based pharmaceutical company EntreMed said it has received $9.3 million in strategic financing as a result of a previously announced sale of subordinated convertible notes.

Leesburg-based mobile app developer TimeRazor said it has raised $3.4 million in funding to finish development of its application which allows users to “discover things you want to do while juggling what you need to do.”

Start-ups

District-based Industry Dive has been formed to provide industry-specific mobile apps and Web sites for executives. The new company’s founders are three former executives at District-based online and e-mail newsletter trade publisher FierceMarkets: Sean Griffey, Ryan Willumson and Eli Dickinson. The three played a major role in building FierceMarkets, which was acquired by Newton, Mass.-based Questex Media in 2008.
