Washington area business events: Week of July 30

Thinking about earning an MBA?

The Concord, Mass.-based MBA Tour rolls into town Tuesday, and you can learn about the GMAT admissions test, find out how business schools make their admissions decisions and get advice on how to pay for an advanced business degree.

There will be 31 schools participating, including local heavyweights American University, George Mason University, George Washington University and Georgetown University. But if you are looking further afield, schools such as Carnegie Mellon University, Emory University and Loyola University Chicago also will be there.

The event begins at 4 p.m. at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, 801 Mount Vernon Pl. NW. Free.

Rockville-based Deborah Brody Marketing Communications will be holding a workshop on “How to Write Your Blog.” The event begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Silver Spring Civic Center, Colesville Room, One Veterans Place, Silver Spring. $75.

Susan Prince, chief executive of Rockville-based Cadence Marketing, is to talk about “Marketing on Autopilot” at the Rockville Women’s Business Center. The event begins at 9:30 a.m. at the center’s offices at 95 Monroe St., Rockville. $25.

The Washington International Trade Association hosts Undersecretary of State for Economic, Business and Agricultural Affairs Robert Hormats, who is to talk about “Re-engaging Burma? Reform, Sanctions and the Road Ahead.” The discussion begins at 8:30 a.m. at Microsoft’s offices at 901 K St. NW, 11th Floor. $30 for members, $45 for everyone else.

Thursday, Aug. 2

Jeff Hoffman of CapStar Commercial Realty plans to talk about “Everything You Need to Know About Leasing Property” during the Gaithersburg Germantown Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business University event. The session starts at 8 a.m. at Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union, 12820 Wisteria Dr., Germantown. $5.

The Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce is hosting a “Coffee and Contracting” event for people doing business with or looking to do business with the federal government. It starts at 8 a.m. at the chamber’s offices at 1763 Fountain Dr., Reston. $10 for members, $15 for everyone else.

The Center for Nonprofit Advancement is hosting leadership coach David R. Snapp, who will talk about “Coaching Your Team for Success.” The event begins at 1:30 p.m. at the center’s offices at 1666 K St. NW. $49 for members, $89 for everyone else.

BizLaunch, the National District Export Council, the U.S. Commercial Service and the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce are hosting an after-hours networking event focused on exporting. It starts at 5:30 at the Arlington Economic Development offices, 1100 N. Glebe Rd., Suite 1500, Arlington. Free.
