Apple announcement rumors: Earphones redesigned

September 12, 2012

It’s not just the iOS devices, but the familiar accessories that come with them that could be in for a makeover. Ahead of Apple’s iPhone 5 announcement, rumors continue to swirl about a fancy redesign to the iconic white headphones.

Vietnamese Web site Tinhte first reported on the new buds, with photos to match. The earpods are reportedly being made in Vietnam and will be sold with the new iPhone, TechCrunch wrote last week.

The headphones will be called ‘earpods,’ cost $29 and look like a mix of Apple’s current earbud offerings, 9 to5 mac reports. They will also be less susceptible to falling out of the wearer’s ears. An accompanying YouTube video of the earpods from the Vietnames Web site has commenters debating on their authenticity, and if they will be more powerful than the current headphones.
