Apple’s new headquarters: A first look

The world’s most valuable technology company has plans to revamp its sprawling office campus in Cupertino, Calif. Here are the renderings that the firm submitted to the city as it seeks approval to build.

Apple recently submitted site plans and renderings for a proposed renovation of the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, Calif. The project is called Apple Campus 2 and is meant to “provide a serene and secure environment reflecting Apple’s values of innovation, ease of use and beauty,” according to the project overview Apple submitted to the City of Cupertino.

A cluster of traditional office buildings making up Apple’s headquarters today (left) would be demolished and replaced with a circular hub surrounded by trees and green space (right). The redesign also calls for eliminating a public access road that currently runs through the middle of campus.

The proposed four-story hub of research and development for Apply would occupy 2.8 million square feet on the company’s 176-acre campus, and accommodate more than 14,000 employees, according to the site plan.

The building project would minimize energy usage and draw on reclaimed water, the site plan says. Apple plans to provide on-site amenities to its workers to “reduce off-campus travel.”

A key feature of the proposed renovations is a verdant landscape “that gives Apple’s employees opportunities for recreation and reflection,” according to the project objectives.

The purpose of consolidating Apple’s engineers and support workers into a single building is “to promote shared creativity and collaboration and spur invention,” according to the objectives in the site plan.
