Google likely to unveil new Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system next week

Samsung has just circulated an invite for an event — prominently featuring the Android Ice Cream Sandwich logo — taking place in Hong Kong on Wednesday, October 19th at 10:00AM local time (10PM ET on October 18th). Why Hong Kong? Conveniently, AllThingsD‘s AsiaD conference is taking place there, and Google’s Andy Rubin is lined up to speak. In all likelihood, this is the event that was originally scheduled to take place at CTIA in San Diego this week, but was postponed because it was “just not the right time to announce a new product.” That means we can expect both a proper unveiling of Ice Cream Sandwich and the phone everyone has been calling the Nexus Prime, the next flagship phone out of Mountain View.

We’ll be covering both AsiaD and the Samsung / Google event live, so stay tuned for details.
