It’s been a rollercoaster of an afternoon in the Twitter-sphere. Early Thursday afternoon users noticed that the social media site wasn’t functioning properly.

The company soon acknowledged the troubles in a blog post, saying “Users may be experiencing issues accessing Twitter. Our engineers are currently working to resolve the issue.”

The terrifying rise of the political entrepreneur

There seems to be a new breed of entrepreneurs whose greatest skill is playing a political game similar to the corporate stooge.

By 1:40 p.m. Eastern time, Twitter had updated that post to say its service had been restored.

But shortly thereafter, some users experienced another disruption, causing Twitter to amend its blog post to say that the problem “is on-going and engineers are working to resolve it.”

At 3:15 p.m., Twitter offered an explanation of the problem: “Today’s outage is due to a cascaded bug in one of our infrastructure components.”

They also promised to provide more details soon, and one can only hope those are in language that’s a little more accessible to those among us who are not tech geeks.
