News Summary: Ford recalls 140,000 cars in India, S. Africa for brake defect, fire hazard

LOOKING FOR LEMONS: Ford will examine 111,000 Ford Figo and Classic models sold in Indi A for a faulty brake performance. It will also replace a hose in 17,655 Figo and Classic cars in India that can leak and possibly catch fire. 10,000 vehicles exported to South Africa will also be recalled.

FAMILIAR ROAD: Toyota, Tata Motors, Honda and Maruti Suzuki have all had to recall cars in India. None has been as big as the Ford’s.

ON THE WAY: Ford has poured hundreds of millions into India, part of a strategy to grow in Asia over the next decade.
