Mailbox
For the latest in e-mail innovation, wait in line
How good would an app have to be for you to wait in line for it? The makers of Mailbox, a mail app that emphasizes a streamlined interface, hope their app will meet that standard. They’ve released their program to Apple’s app store, but downloading only gets you on the waiting list. Once you climb your way through the list — it’s thousands deep at the time of writing — the app itself is a delight, albeit a qualified one. The app only supports Gmail at the moment, though it is perfect for those who want a clean inbox on a daily basis. Users can swipe right across part of the screen to archive messages or do a full sweep across the screen to delete them. Swiping left will let you schedule to see a certain message at a later time, or let you add it to a list of tasks to complete. Real organization fiends will be sad to see that the app doesn’t let you use Gmail labels, however. All in all, Mailbox is a fine app for e-mail management but it comes with more than its fair share of caveats, not to mention a need to be patient. Free, for iOS.
