Apple introduces new Mac mini

Tablets were the main focus of Apple’s event Tuesday, but the company also gave a little stage time to the Mac line.

As expected, one of the products that Apple refreshed Tuesday was the Mac Mini, which got upgraded with a new processor and new ports.

Apple announced a $599 version of the Mac Mini, with a 2.5GHz Intel dual-core i5 processor, 4GB of memory and a 500 GB hard drive. For $200 more, consumers can pick up a 2.3 Ghz quad-core i7 processor with 1 TB of hard drive space.

Apple is also offering a Mac Mini with the i7 chip, two 1TB hard drives and — as you might guess — OS X server, which is aimed at Apple power users and Mac-based businesses that need more syncing and collaborative features.

The Mac Mini had its last major refresh in the middle of last year, when the company added a Thunderbolt port to the small computer.

Apple replaced some more ports Tuesday, swapping the 4 USB 2.0 ports on the computer for four USB 3.0 ports.

Apple is taking orders for the updated computer.
