HTC and Verizon announced Tuesday that they are releasing a new smartphone, the Droid DNA, just in time for the holiday season.

The 5-inch smartphone will be coming out only on Verizon’s network starting on Nov. 21. The phone has a quad-core 1.5 GHz processor and will run on the company's 4G LTE network.

The phone’s 8MP camera will also come with software meant to help enhance the camera’s sharpness and clarity, the smartphone manufacturer said. The DNA also has a 2.1 MP front-facing camera. It will run Google’s latest Android version, 4.1.1 or Jelly Bean.

Of course, the phone also touts great sound quality, thanks to HTC’s ongoing partnership with Beat Audio.

HTC and Verizon say that the DNA is the “ultimate smartphone” in part because of its HDTV-quality display with 440 pixels per inch. (By way of comparison, Apple generally says that a smartphone of over 300 ppi qualifies as a retina display.) It can also capture video in 1080p, meaning it will let users produce as well as view high-definition video. The phone also includes software that lets users take pictures and still images at the same time.

As is fitting for a Verizon-exclusive phone, the Droid DNA has a black soft-touch back with red metallic fittings. At its thinnest point, the phone is 4mm thick.

The phone also comes with what appears to be the hot new feature for smartphones this season — wireless charging. Users will be able to charge the phone by setting it down on a special charging platform.

The phone will cost $199.99 for a two-year agreement on Verizon.
