Samsung tweets teaser announcement for ‘next Galaxy’

Samsung sent out a teaser announcement from its Twitter account indicating that the Galaxy SIV, the next in its line of successful smartphones, will get its media debut next month.

In a tweet sent from the company’s account for its mobile team, Samsung invited everyone to “meet the next Galaxy” with a link to its YouTube channel, where it has streamed events in the past. The teaser announcement also said that the company was “Ready 4 the Show” on March 14, indicating that Samsung will probably stick with the same naming scheme that it has for the rest of the Galaxy S line.

The phone is expected to have a better and perhaps larger screen than its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S III, which sports a 4.8-inch display. Techradar reported that a document supposedly leaked by a Korean financial service firm indicates that the phone will have a 5-inch screen, a quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and run on the latest version of Google’s operating system, Android Jelly Bean 4.2.

Some industry watchers have hoped that the Galaxy SIV will be the first phone to have the flexible screen technology that Samsung showed off at the Consumer Electronics Show. But, as the Verge reported, it may be too early to expect the new tech to show up in this generation of gadgets.

The Galaxy SIV has been the subject of plenty of speculation as the Korean company continues its rivalry with Apple for the top tier of the smartphone market. Together, Apple and Samsung have 52 percent of the global smartphone market, according to data from Gartner.
