TV on your Xbox, coming soon
By Hayley Tsukayama,
Microsoft announced Wednesday that it is partnering with several media companies to bring more video channels to the Xbox 360 console.
Starting this holiday season, the Xbox will become a hub for TV and video entertainment, thanks to partnerships with leading TV providers including Comcast, Verizon FiOS, HBO Go, Bravo and Syfy. The company is also partnering with online video sites including YouTube, Dailymotion, MSN with MSNBC.com and the Today Show.
Don’t get too excited, though. To take advantage of the upcoming feature, users must already be subscribers to the content. For example, to get the Verizon FiOS channels, you have to be a Verizon FiOS subscriber. The same is true of Comcast and the others. You’ll also have to be a member of Microsoft’s $60 per year Xbox Live Gold service.
The service is rolling out in “more than 20 countries,” with region-specific content, the company said.
