Will Facebook’s Zuckerberg be the next Bill Gates of philanthropy?
The chief executive’s announcement on May 1 that Facebook would allow users to share their organ donor status is the latest example of a tech titan trying to use his reach and wealth to do good.

Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg wrote in a blog post that “Medical experts believe that broader awareness about organ donation could go a long way toward solving this crisis.” Zuckerberg has previously donated $100 million to set up a foundation to help the Newark schools. He is among the billionaires who have pledged to give away a large share of his wealth to charity.
