Lincoln has issued a recall on certain versions of its 2013 MKS sedan due to an issue with the cars’ child safety locks. Also included in the latest recall are versions of the 2013 Ford Explorer and Taurus.
The recall only affects 2013 Lincoln MKS sedans built from November 29, 2012, through December 12, 2012. The same is true for the aforementioned Ford vehicles.
In total, there are some 12,569 vehicles affected by the recall in the U.S.
According to Lincoln, the child safety locks on the recalled vehicles may change from an activated position to a deactivated position without notice. With a child sitting in the back and playing with the handle, the door could end up opening despite the child safety lock originally being activated.
Lincoln is in the process of notifying owners affected by the recall. These owners will be asked to visit their closest dealer which will test the safety locks and if necessary replace them free of charge.
