It's October of 2013, and some automakers have yet to roll out their 2014 models. But Audi? Audi just left those guys (and gals) in the dust by announcing pricing for its 2015 A3 sedan. The future is now.
You might recall that the 2015 A3 was unveiled in March at the New York Auto Show. Since the reveal, we've spent a good bit of time discussing how the 2015 A3 could up the stakes -- both for Audi and for its competitors in the luxury segment.
One of the biggest unknowns, though, was the A3's pricetag. As Marty Padgett said in his preview, "pricing hasn't been released, though a $30,000 base price would put it in direct competition with the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA". And, lo and behold, that's exactly where it falls: the MSRP on the base A3 is $29,900.
The long-running, entry-level luxury sedan has been redesigned for 2015. Standard equipment includes a panoramic glass sunroof, leather seats, and bi-xenon headlamps. Under the hood, Audi will do as others have done, offering downsized, turbocharged powerplants. Gas options include 1.8-liter and 2.0-liter TFSI engines, and there's a 2.0-liter TDI for diesel fans. Performance junkies will be happy to know that the A3's souped-up sibling, the 2015 S3, arrives with a high-output version of that 2.0-liter TFSI.
All of those engines will be paired with Audi's six-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission, offering all the fun of a stick-shift without the workout for your left foot.
Unfortunately, Audi hasn't revealed pricing for the 2015 A3's trim levels and packages, or for the A3 cabriolet -- just the base sedan. Since it won't arrive at dealerships until spring of 2014, though, the company's bean-counters have a few more months to work out the details.
In the meantime, Mercedes-Benz has clearly been put on notice, and Mercedes shoppers have another reason to turn their heads in Audi's direction.
