Running a major automaker involves lots of hard work and plenty of long hours, but rank hath its privileges. In addition to the six-or-seven figure salary plus stock options, it’s pretty much a given that the CEO gets to pick any car (or really, any cars) from the company catalog to drive.
Take the head of Fiat and Chrysler, Sergio Marchionne, for example. We already know he’s got a black Ferrari Enzo (which may or may not have something to do with Fiat’s ownership of Ferrari) and once stacked a Ferrari 599 GTB to avoid rear-ending a driver in a Renault.
As anyone who’s ever owned a Ferrari will tell you, they’re not right for every occasion and don’t make the ideal daily driver. Now, thanks to SRT head Ralph Gilles’ Twitter feed, we know what Sergio Marchionne drives on the weekends: a murdered-out Dodge Challenger SRT8.
In stock form, the Challenger SRT8 serves up a 6.4-liter V-8 good for 470 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough to get the muscle-car-with-mass from 0-60 in around 4.5 seconds, or through the quarter mile in the mid-12s. Despite having to shop at the big & tall store, the Challenger SRT8 isn’t averse to the occasional track day, either.
We have no idea if Sergio Marchionne’s Challenger is stock or not, but there’s no way we’d throw down against him in a stock Challenger SRT8 for money. When you’re used to driving cars like the Ferrari Enzo, with its 651 horsepower, somehow 470 horsepower just isn’t enough in a daily driver.
We can’t help but wonder if GM CEO Dan Akerson has a Camaro ZL1 in his garage for weekend entertainment, or if Ford’s Alan Mulally has taken delivery of a new Shelby GT500. We hope the answer to both questions is a resounding “yes.”
