The Leipzig International Auto Show isn't one of the biggest stops of the year, but it's a popular outlet for special-edition vehicles--as evidenced by the VW Scirocco GTS, and now, the Beetle Fender Edition.
If the name sounds familiar, that's because in late 2010, the brand announced a partnership with Fender for in-car audio. Then, VW showed a concept version of the car at the 2011 Leipzig show. Now the combo has come full circle, with the Beetle Fender Edition.
What makes this Beetle so Fender? A Fender premium audio system, of course, plus a "Sunburst" guitar-style dash, unique fabric seat inserts and contrast interior stitching, brushed chrome side mirrors, 18-inch "disc" alloy wheels, and a Fender logo in brushed chrome. All Beetle Fender Edition cars will be painted in Deep Black Metallic paint.
Otherwise, the Beetle Fender Edition is a standard 200-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter Beetle Turbo.
If you're curious about the Fender audio system, it's a 400-Watt, nine-speaker, ten-channel setup. Four tweeters, two Fender Twin speakers, two rear speakers, and a Fender Bassman subwoofer deliver the sound.
The Fender Edition goes on sale in Europe first, then here in America this fall. We won't get pricing info until closer to launch.
