Ms. Jennifer Alexandern Manassas County Public Schools

Jennifer Alexander is a social studies teacher at Osburn High School in Manassas, Va. Previously, Ms. Alexander worked in Onishi-Machi, Japan as an assistant language teacher for two years. She received her BA in history from the University of Dallas in Irving, Tex. and her MA in reading from George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.

Mr. Rolf Arnesen, Calvert County Public Schools

Rolf Arnesan began his career as a math teacher at Johnnycake Middle School in Baltimore, Md. Mr. Arnesan currently works as a math teacher at Huntington High School in Huntington, Md. He received his MS in curriculum and instruction and his BA in mathematics from Western Maryland College in Westminster, Md.

Mr. Michael Bell, Anne Arundel County Public Schools

Michael Bell is an art teacher at Southern Senior High School in Harwood, Md. Mr. Bell has been acknowledged as an art expert in several Maryland publications. He received his BA in education from Lycoming College in Williamsport, Penn. and his MA in art education from Towson University in Towson, Md.

Mr. Joel Block, Falls Church Public Schools

Joel Block began his career as a math teacher at Thomas Edison High School in Alexandria, Va. Mr. Block currently works as a math teacher at George Mason High School in Fairfax, Va. He has also coached volleyball, baseball and soccer throughout the Arlington community. Mr. Block received his MA and BA in education from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

Ms. Kathy Crane, Fauquier County Public Schools

Kathy Crane is a reading specialist at W.G. Coleman Elementary School in The Plains, Va. Previously, Ms. Crane was a classroom teacher at W. G. Coleman.  She has also taught at H.M. Pearson Elementary School in Catlett, Va.  In addition to teaching at W. G. Coleman, Ms. Crane is an adjunct professor at The University of Virginia Curry School of Education.  She earned her MEd in reading education from The University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. and her BS in elementary education from Radford University in Radford, Va.

Mrs. Barbara Elliot, Private School

Barbara Elliot began her career as a math teacher at Stone Ridge Country Day School in Rockville, Md. Mrs. Elliot is now a math teacher at Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School in Washington, D.C. She received her MA in math from Georgetown University in Washington D.C. and her BA in mathematics from Manhattanville College in Purchase, N.Y.

Mrs. Barbara J. Ferguson, Frederick County Public Schools

Barbara Ferguson currently works as a health and physical education teacher at Linganore High School in Frederick, Md. Mrs. Ferguson also coaches Linganore's varsity gymnastics team and is a certified Red Cross CPR and First Aid instructor. She received her BS in health and physical education from Frostburg State College in Frostburg, Md.

Ms. Kathleen Fitzpatrick, Alexandria City Public Schools

Kathleen Fitzpatrick works as an art teacher at Northern Virginia Juvenile Detention Center in Alexandria, Va. Ms. Fitzpatrick is the creator of The Creative Connection Art and Yoga Program that incorporates art, yoga, and meditation for at-risk youth. She received her MA in education from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M. and her BA from Clarion University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pa.

Ms. Jacqueline Matise Fludd Peng, Montgomery County Public Schools

Jacqueline Matise Fludd Peng is a social studies teacher at Paint Branch High School in Burtonsville, Md. Ms. Fludd Peng is also a reader for the Advanced Placement World History College Board.  She received her MA in education and BA in American Studies from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

Mrs. Tanya Green, Stafford County Public Schools

Tanya Green is an art teacher at Hampton Oaks Elementary School in Stafford, Va. Mrs. Green has presented work before the National Art Education Association and the Virginia Art Education Association. She received her BA in education from the University of Delaware in Newark, Del. and her MA in education from The University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va.

Ms. Crystal Harney, Charles County Public Schools

Crystal Harney currently works as a math teacher at Westlake High School in Waldorf, Md. Ms. Harney began her career as a lab tech and chemistry instructor at Rochester College in Rochester Hills, Mich. She received her BA in chemistry from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich.

Mrs. Lisa Hawkins, Prince George’s County Public Schools

Lisa Hawkins is a kindergarten teacher at Deerfield Run Elementary School in Laurel, Md.  Mrs. Hawkins previously worked as chief in technical training at the Headquarters Space and Missile Center at the Los Angeles Air Force Base in California. She received her BA in geography from the State University of New York at Geneseo in Geneseo, N.Y. and her MA in school administration from South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D.

Ms. Tracy Holland, Manassas Park City Schools

Tracy Holland is as a second grade teacher at Cougar Elementary School in Manassas Park, Va. Ms. Holland has participated in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk. She received her MA in professional studies from George Mason University and a BS in elementary education from Longwood College in Farmville, Va.

Mrs. Monique Marshall-Ferguson, Eastern Senior High School

Monique Marshall-Ferguson works as an autism inclusion teacher at Eastern Senior High School in Washington, D.C. Mrs. Marshall-Ferguson is also the author of three fiction novels. She received her BA in sociology from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Ga. and her MA in education from Bowie State University in Bowie, Md. Ms. Marshall-Ferguson is currently pursuing her MA in special education and transition at the University of Maryland in College Park, Md.

Mr. George McGurl, Howard County Public Schools

George McGurl began his career as a science teacher at Hammond Middle School in Alexandria, Va. George currently works as a science teacher and outdoor education coordinator at Burleigh Manor Middle School in Ellicott City, Md.  He received his MS in education from McDaniel College in Westminster, Md. and his BS in education from the University of Maryland.

Ms. Melissa Porfirio, Fairfax County Public Schools

Melissa Porfirio is a first grade teacher at Crestwood Elementary in Springfield, Va. Ms. Porfirio began her career as a social worker in Washington, D.C. She received her MA in education from George Mason University and her BA in social work from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

Mrs. Julia Renberg, Prince William County Public Schools

Julia Renberg is a chemistry teacher at Battlefield High School in Haymarket, Va. Mrs. Renberg is also a reviewer of the International Journal of Educational Policy and Leadership. She received her BS in education from Belarussian State University in Belarus and her MS in education from George Mason University.

Ms. Lisa Roth, Loudoun County Public School

Lisa Roth is a first grade teacher at Dominion Trail Elementary School in Ashburn, Va. Ms. Roth currently volunteers with the National Down Syndrome Society in Fairfax, Va. and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in Lansdowne, Va. She received her BS in elementary education at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C.

Ms. Erica Russell, Arlington Public Schools

Erica Russell currently works as an English teacher at Francis Scott Key Elementary School in Arlington, Va. Ms. Russell volunteered as a social aid worker at a children’s home in Honduras for a year, which inspired her to pursue a career in education. She received her BA in elementary education from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Mich. and is pursuing her MA in curriculum and instruction at the American College of Education in Indianapolis, Ind.

Mrs. Maureen Wysham, St. Mary's County Public School

Maureen Wysham is a music teacher at Greenview Knolls Elementary School in California, Md. Mrs. Wysham is the Principal Bassoon for the COSMIC Community Orchestra and the Music Director for the Patuxent Presbyterian Church. She received her MA in music performance from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich. and her BS in music education from West Chester State College in Chester, Pa.
