Congress on Facebook: The best cover photos

While not all members of Congress have switched over to Facebook’s new “Timeline” format, these members of Congress have unique and compelling Facebook cover photos, the large image featured prominently at the top of a Facebook page. We took screenshots from Facebook pages to show off a few of the best congressional examples we have seen. Use the comments to suggest senators’ or representatives’ Facebook pages that we should add.

Landscape

Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) features the landscape of his home state with a bold road sign. Many senators and representatives use landscapes of their jurisdictions in their cover photos.

Photo Contest

Sen. Tom Carper (D-De.) is one of a few to turn to a photo contest to determine what should be the cover photo for his Facebook page. The cover photo here is taken by Frank Baker from Wilmington, Delaware. Sen. Shaheen (D-Nh), Rep. Rob Wittman (R-Va.), Rep. Scott Rigell, (R-Va.), Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.), Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.), Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va), and others.also relied on similar photo contests.

Integrated profile

Rep Tim V Johnson (R-Il.) integrates his profile photo (the square image) with his cover photo. The cover photo also matches his website, Twitter, and YouTube pages.

Another common theme among congressional Facebook cover photos is the bridge. Rep. Kurt Schrader (D-Ore.) offers one of the most beautiful examples.
