Do relationships come with collision insurance?
“I crashed and likely totaled my significant other’s car. It turns out SO did not have collision insurance on said car. I love SO with all my heart and want to marry him, but what is ‘making it right’? I am seriously expected to pay the full value of the car because he didn’t get collision insurance? Am I supposed to pay what the deductible would have been? How do I determine how much that is?
“I don’t have a lot of money, so this is pretty financially devastating to me. Just the towing costs are enough to make me cry. Full repair will wipe out all the money I’ve saved since college. I know I have to be responsible for everything, but I just wasn’t prepared to buy a whole car. Ironically, this had been a subject of contention in the past, where I thought he had completely inadequate insurance and he refused to pay more than the bare, legal minimum because he said he couldn’t afford it.”
