Facebook or can’t-face book?

“Some people on Facebook annoy me with their constant show-offs--especially gushing about their kids and how happy they are and all that. I have beautiful twin children and I am happy, too, but I don’t go around advertising it. I find Facebook brings out streaks of exhibitionism in people--everyone is trying so hard to convince everyone else that their lives are fabulous. I try not to get roped in and usually I just hide people whose posts annoy me. Am I a scrooge or do others feel the same way? Can you ask the peanuts?”

Done. I can argue that it’s a show-off venue, or that it’s a rare outpost of optimism in a culture where the put-down is king. What do you say--do any generalizations apply?
