In Deep Goo(gle)?

This question came to me today as a long letter, so I’m going to paraphrase and let you all have at it:

Two adults meet while traveling, strike up a pleasant conversation, exchange email addresses. They stay in touch long-distance, get to know each other better, visit each other. All seems promising.

One of them, comfortable with the other person so far but uncomfortable with the whole idea of getting to know someone long-distance, Googles to confirm the person’s information and toys with the idea of a deeper, paid search, just to be safe--but is concerned that’s going too far. And also is “not sure I’d be okay to know [the other person] did such a thorough search on me.”

This person asks: Would you order such a report? Would you tell the other person you did? Would you ask if the other person did the same?
