Text and context

This reader doesn’t want her question to be ignored: “What is the proper etiquette for returning texts and emails? If they can’t be returned right away, what is the polite time limit to return them? If the receiver is busy and forgets to respond, how long should the writer wait before resending? Are the rules different if its professional vs. personal? I have a good friend who either responds right away or not at all. Sometimes it takes three texts to get a response. He insists he is not ignoring his friends and that it’s fine not to respond to every text, but it just seems rude to me.”

And since someone will probably bring it up as a response, how much reliance on texting among friends is too much?
