The Style Conversational
Loser-friendly discussion with The Empress of The Style Invitational

If you’d like to enter The Style Invitational, The Post’s long-running humor/wordplay contest, or are an avid reader and you’d like to know more about it, you’ll definitely want to click on the first headline below to see this week’s Style Conversational, the weekly online column by the Empress, Pat Myers. Every Thursday afternoon (if things aren’t going bonkers), the E posts a new column discussing that week’s new contest — often with some guidance about what she’s looking for — and reflecting on the week’s results (sometimes including entries that were too tasteless for the paper).

In addition, the Empress shares news of the Loser Community. See, the Invitational is more than a contest: Since its start in 1993, many of its contestants have managed to find and befriend one another, both online and in actual events such as monthly brunches, holiday parties, field trips and an annual award “banquet.” The Facebook page Style Invitational Devotees has more than 500 members — everyone is welcome to join. The Empress is almost creepily likely to join in the conversation or answer a question at any hour of the day or night.

If you’d like to be notified by e-mail (just once a week) as soon as the Invitational and Conversational are posted online — usually late Thursday afternoon or early evening — e-mail the Empress at myersp@washpost.com; indicate in the subject line that you’d like to be on the mailing list.

You can ask questions or leave comments on this Conversational page, but the discussion will be livelier and your questions seen faster on the Facebook page, on which the Losers also start threads and share links themselves.
