No purchase necessary. Contest is open only to legal residents of the United States, though anyone can submit photos for potential publication by The Washington Post. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older to win a prize. This Contest is sponsored by WP Company LLC d/b/a The Washington Post. Employees, officers, directors and representatives of Sponsor and its corporate affiliates, and those with whom such persons are domiciled, are not eligible. Void outside the United States and where prohibited by law. Contest subject to all federal, state and local laws.
HOW TO ENTER: No purchase necessary. To enter, go to wapo.st/travelshot to upload your travel photo. One photo/entry per person only, and photo must have been taken after July 31, 2011. If you submit multiple entries, we will consider only the first photo received. You may only submit an image that you have taken yourself, and you must have all necessary rights in the photo in order to submit it here. Include caption information and the date the photo was taken, plus your name, e-mail address and phone number. Please do not submit images that have been heavily manipulated. It is acceptable to adjust images to achieve color balance that reflects the scene as you observed it. Cropping is also acceptable. The Post has the right to disqualify any image which it feels has been overly altered.
Only amateur photographers are eligible. Professional photographers (i.e., anyone who earns more than 50 percent of his or her annual income from photography, determined at Sponsor’s sole discretion) are not eligible.
By entering, you grant The Washington Post permission to use your photo in perpetuity in any medium, including to edit, publish, distribute and republish it in any form. Photographers retain the copyright to their images. All entries are subject to The Post’s Discussion and Submission Guidelines.
Entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. ET on July 20, 2012. Entries that are late, incomplete, unreadable, inaccurate, unintelligible or otherwise not in compliance with these Official Rules will be disqualified. Sponsors are not responsible for lost, destroyed or misdirected entries.
PRIZES: Gift certificates to a photo retailer. Average retail value: First prize, $250; second prize, $100; third prize, $75; fourth prize, $25.
No substitutions, exchanges, refunds or other compensation will be made for any reason, including cancellation of the contest. Winners are responsible for all taxes associated with claiming this prize.
SELECTION OF WINNERS: Four winners will be selected based on originality, creativity and skill by Travel staff and photography professionals. The winners will be notified by The Washington Post on or about Aug. 20. Incomplete entries will not be accepted. The number of eligible entries will determine the odds of winning. Sponsor is not obligated to leave voice mail, answering machine, or other message. In Sponsor’s sole discretion, a selected winner may be required to forfeit a prize and an alternate winner may be selected in accordance with these Official Rules from among the remaining eligible entries for that prize if selected winner (i) is unreachable, (ii) declines or cannot accept, receive or use the prize for any reason, or (iii) fails to comply with these Official Rules.
