What do you say if Junior says he wants to go to Penn State because he loves the football team?
My Redskins are struggling. Most of the rest of the NFL doesn't interest me. I am regaining an interest in college football, as a new season begins. It occurs to me that many students may be strongly influenced by their rooting interest in a team when picking a college. Is this wrong? Most of the best football teams---like my current favorite, Stanford---appear to be part of pretty good universities, usually big ones with lots of extra curricular activities and strong departments. Can we substitute the weekly AP football standings for the US News and World Report "America's Best Colleges" and still make the right choice? — Jay Matthews
