To Anne Midgette:

On July 13, three friends and I set out from Washington for the Castleton Festival’s 7:30 p.m. performance of Stephen Sondheim’s “A Little Night Music.” We stopped for an early dinner in Flint Hill and left the restaurant at 6:10 to get to Castleton well in time to get settled in. After all, we were only 25 to 30 minutes away — or so we were told.

Armed with a Global Positioning System and printed Google directions, we went over hill and dell, hill and dell and then another hill and dell. There were only two signs to Castleton, which we followed, but they did not take us there. By dark and still looking, we decided we’d better try to find our way back to Washington because it was so dark we could barely see our hands in front of our faces, and besides the performance was over anyway.

Bottom line — I was glad you at least found Castleton. Even the clerks at the little store where we stopped near Lee Highway on the way home chuckled and said they have “lost” people stop in all the time who can’t find it, either.
