Paata Tsikurishvili decided only two weeks ago that this “very creepy, very dark” production would be silent. “The plot is very familiar and that allows me to take out the words,” he said. “It’s more mysterious, more engaging. It’s almost otherworldly.” Company member Alex Mills will play the titular doctor/monster. “Alex has an ability to create different dimensions, and through that, the audience will follow him into the different dimensions.”
‘A Trip to the Moon’
Directed by Natsu Onoda Power. Dec. 6-Jan. 6, 2013.
Based on the 1902 silent film of the same name, “A Trip to the Moon” is “a very special case” for Synetic. Power will “incorporate live musicians [and] lots of projections,” Tsikurishvili said.

“I thought, ‘Can I do this show without water?’ ” Tsikurishvili said. His answer: absolutely not. “I cannot miss that opportunity.” Also, there will be acrobats. “The Tempest” is going to be Synetic’s most expensive show this season, “and the most spectacular,” Tsikurishvili said. “It’s a very mystical, visual experience. . . . [It’s] sexual and romantic.”
‘The Three Musketeers’
Directed by Paata Tsikurishvili, choreographed by Irina Tsikurishvili. May 9-June 9, 2013.
Inspired by the success of the physical comedy in last season’s “The Taming of the Shrew,” Tsikurishvili will helm this mostly wordless production (he anticipates the show will be about “80 percent visual storytelling”). Tsikurishvili bills the show as being “very sexy, very hot, very goofy and very funny.”
‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’
Directed by Paata Tsikurishvili, choreographed by Irina Tsikurishvili. July 24-Aug. 4, 2013.
“I thought ‘Midsummer’ in midsummer would be perfect,” Tsikurishvili said. He said he’s bringing this one back literally by popular demand. “People loved it” when it premiered in 2009, he said. “I want to close the season with the most successful production I’ve done.”

Keegan goes back to classics
After offering a handful of new plays in the past few seasons (“Cuchullain” in 2012, “Basra Boy,” “A Shadow of Honor,” “National Pastime” and “An Irish Carol” in 2011), Keegan Theatre has decided to throttle back on the new shows and revisit some classics. Still, stay tuned for updates about a new play or two working their way into this year’s roster. “We have a couple shows that we’re looking it,” said Artistic Director Mark A. Rhea. “They’d be world, U.S. or area premieres.”
‘A Couple of Blaguards’
Directed by Colin Smith. Sept. 21-Oct. 14.
“We wanted to try to keep as much as possible to the gritty, blue-collar [stories],” Rhea said, a sentiment that also informed Keegan’s selection of “The Full Monty.”
‘All My Sons’
Directed by Susan Marie Rhea. Nov. 3-Dec. 1.
“We’ve done Arthur Miller,” said Mark Rhea, citing last season’s “The Crucible.” “We can handle the power of those plays.” This one in particular appeals, he said, because of “the darkness of it. The sadness of the play.”
‘An Irish Carol’
Directed by Mark A. Rhea. Dec. 15-30.
Keegan is reuniting the original artistic team and cast of its holiday musical, which premiered last year.
Directed by Christina A. Coakley and Michael Innocenti. Jan. 26-Feb. 23, 2013.
Keegan’s production of “Cabaret” is keeping with its modus operandi of offering a couple of musicals each season. “A new exploration of a musical comes with the intimate size of the house we have,” Rhea said.
