On the Run
The 30th annual Turkey Chase (Turkeychase.com) in Bethesda is a time-tested way to kick off the holiday. And it’s keeping up with the times — this year, the YMCA fundraiser is striving for green certification. The 10K ($45) starts at 8:30 a.m. at 9401 Old Georgetown Road (followed by a 2-mile walk/run and a 50-meter kids dash).
Worried your turkey hat will slow you down at the Trot For Hunger? Register as an “untimed participant” ($30, Some.org) to showcase your style without hurting your ego. Just remember that many others have bigger problems: The 5K that takes off at 9 a.m. from Freedom Plaza supports So Others Might Eat, which fights homelessness and poverty in D.C. (It’s $35 to run timed.)
Around the Bend
Stretch yourself for a cause: Tranquil Space (Tranquilspace.com) is suggesting a $15 donation for its yoga classes Thursday and giving proceeds to So Others Might Eat. Come at 9 and 10:30 a.m. at the Arlington location (3528 Wilson Blvd.), and 9:30, 10:30 and 11 a.m. at the Dupont location (1632 17th St. NW).
The president gets to pardon a turkey, and you can, too, at the Have a Heart Vinyasa Flow class at the Studio DC (2469 18th St. NW, Thestudiodc.com). Donations go to Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt a Turkey Project; it’s $30 to save a bird. The 75-minute class for all ages and levels starts at 10 a.m.
Any Which Way You Can
Helping others makes your butt look better. OK, that’s not always true, but it is this week at Georgetown’s Barre3 (1000 Wisconsin Ave. NW, Barre3.com/georgetown), which is holding a canned food drive. Three cans equals one free class, through Sunday. And there’s a class at 10 a.m. Thursday if you’re looking to shake before you bake.
Bring a can to the newly opened Washington Harbour Ice Rink (3000 K St. NW; Thewashingtonharbour.com/skating) for a free skate rental ($5 value) Thursday. You’ll still have to pay admission ($9 for adults, $7 for kids, seniors and military).
